SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. SEO is the practice of improving and promoting a website to increase the number of visitors the site receives from search engines. There are many aspects to SEO, from the words on your page to the way other sites link to you on the web. SEO is the process of improving the visibility of a website on organic ("natural" or un-paid) search engine result pages (SERPs), by incorporating search engine friendly elements into a website.
"Search engine optimization is about putting your site's best foot forward when it comes to visibility in search engines, but your ultimate consumers are your users, not search engines".
"Search engine optimization is often about making small modifications to parts of your website. When viewed individually, these changes might seem like incremental improvements, but when combined with other optimizations, they could have a noticeable impact on your site's user experience and performance in organic search results."
From Google's Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide.
Just taking a look at the basics of SEO, here are some of the things to look for while optimizing your site pages for search engines. Create unique, accurate page titles (makes sense, Google wants people to find the right stuff!). Improve the structure of your URLs and make your site easier to navigate (thats the user-friendly stuff). Offer quality content and services (When Google looks at your page, it's looking for the best info out there!). Optimize your use of images (Use Alt Names so Google can recognize images). Make use of the "description" meta tag (A page's description meta tag gives Google and other search engines a summary of what the page is about). Quality Link Building using trustworthy sites as well as Social Media sharing (Get out there the right way!)
